Circle Of Doubt
Circle Of Doubt

Rosetta West’s latest single, “Circle of Doubt,” is a hallucinatory journey through the shadows of the psyche, drenched in blues rock and cloaked in mysticism. Hailing from Illinois, this fiercely independent band, helmed by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joseph Demagore, has carved out a unique niche with their signature blend of psychedelia, world folk, and spiritual lyricism. Released to align with Beltane, the ancient Celtic festival of fire and renewal, “Circle of Doubt” perfectly embodies the duality of light struggling to pierce darkness. It’s a brooding, mantra-like track that grows in complexity the deeper you fall into it.

From the first bend of Demagore’s blues guitar, the song weaves a trance, repetitive, sludgy riffs loop like incantations, suggesting the weight of spiritual fatigue. But there’s a fire beneath the surface. Trippy, almost meditative solos flicker in and out of focus, hinting at some unreachable clarity. The rhythm section, anchored by Jason X’s fluid bass lines and the ghostlike, always-just-out-of-sight presence of drummer Nathan Q. Scratch, moves with a slow, deliberate intensity, as if the band is wading through fog, searching for a way out of their spiritual wilderness.

Lyrically, “Circle of Doubt” is a confessional spell cast from the aftermath of inner war. Demagore’s vocals are half-incantation, half-plea, and there’s exhaustion in his delivery, but also a faint flicker of hope. He sings like someone who has seen too much and is trying to reconcile the ruins. The titular circle becomes a metaphor for cyclical despair, a place where the soul paces restlessly after being scorched by life’s unanswered questions. It’s haunting and beautiful in equal measure, balancing raw vulnerability with philosophical depth.

What’s most compelling about this track is how it embodies the ethos of Rosetta West: defiant in its independence, rich in atmosphere, and unafraid to dive into the metaphysical. While many blues-rock bands traffic in nostalgia or swagger, Rosetta West reaches for something more transcendent. “Circle of Doubt” feels less like a song and more like a ritual, the sound of a band trying to break a curse through sound. There’s a sense that what you’re hearing is a catharsis unfolding in real time.

In a world of polished overproduction and disposable singles, Rosetta West continues to craft music with soul, grit, and purpose. “Circle of Doubt” stands as a potent reminder that the blues, when filtered through visionary artistry and mystical introspection, still has the power to shake the spirit. This is not just a song to be heard but one to be absorbed, sat with, and returned to, especially in moments of doubt.
