With “Intertwined b/w Intertwined (acoustic),” Delta of Venus takes a bold, introspective step deeper into sonic identity. Building on the critical success of their debut single “Disengaged b/w Slipping,” the band continues their genre-bending exploration of shoegaze with a dual version of their newest track: one layered in swirling, immersive noise and the other stripped to its aching, acoustic bones. This second release cements the band’s growing reputation as artists who flirt with experimentation and lean in.

Intertwined” in its original form is a dense and hypnotic soundscape, marrying dreamy guitar work with a rhythmic churn that gives the track atmosphere and movement. The song’s title is apt; the guitars, bass, and vocals braid together like threads of thought in a restless mind. Lyrically, it’s a meditation on human connection in a chaotic world, how empathy can extend to strangers, how our lives touch in unseen ways. That thematic current pulses through the music, drawing you into a fog of longing and fragmented hope. It’s shoegaze with both a pulse and a soul.

Then comes the curveball: an acoustic version that wasn’t even planned, initially suggested as a joke by bassist Mat Tarbox. But in the true spirit of creative serendipity, it became meaningful. Guitarist Ellery Twining unearthed an old acoustic guitar and began shaping an alternate vision of the track that trades distortion for delicacy without losing the emotional weight. The acoustic version transforms “Intertwined” into something haunting and intimate, like a whispered secret after the storm has passed.

What’s most striking about the acoustic take is how it reveals the strength of the songwriting itself. Stripped of the lush, layered noise of the original, the melodies and lyrics stand on their own, casting new shadows and revealing different shades of vulnerability. It’s a rare moment in shoegaze, a genre known for burying vocals and meaning under walls of sound, where clarity becomes as powerful as haze. This version reimagines the song, recontextualises it, turning inward where the original expanded outward.

With “Intertwined b/w Intertwined (acoustic),” Delta of Venus shows content to reside within genre boundaries by reshaping them. Pairing two versions of the same track, they invite listeners to experience the storm, stillness, the noise and the nuance. It’s a sonic, reflecting the band’s rich potential and their fearlessness in chasing creative whimsy to unexpectedly profound places. If this is what Delta of Venus brings on their second single, the journey ahead is already vibrating with promise.
