Discovering Joy: Rusty Reid’s ‘The Meaning Of Life’ and the Pursuit of Happiness

From Seattle, the seaport city on the West Coast of the United States, Rusty Reid, the cognomen for the multitalented artist, drops a bold revival of indie and indie rock nostalgia with his latest track "The Meaning Of Life" released on October 29, 2024. Rusty Reid glows as a beacon of artistry and authenticity, and his journey thus far has been one of exploration and expression, inviting listeners into their world with each verse and beat. Through emotionally evocative storytelling and instrumental prowess, Reid spreads socially conscious messages of togetherness, appealing to various audiences drawn to his complex arranged song craft.

At its core, Rusty Reid’s song “The Meaning Of Life” explores the pursuit of happiness as a central purpose of human existence. The lyrics suggest that happiness isn’t something to be passively awaited but rather an active quest that requires openness and mindfulness. Reid encourages us to engage deeply with life and those around us, advocating for a compassionate pursuit of happiness that involves helping others find their joy. The simplicity with which nature is symbolized by trees and birds' experiences of happiness serves as an example for humans to find contentment in the present, with grace and ease.

The bridge questions how humanity has drifted from this natural ease, hinting that we are often obstacles in the journey toward happiness. Rather than longing for distant paradises or elusive futures, Reid proposes that heaven and fulfilment lie beyond the mental barriers we create. By urging listeners to “open up your soul” and “see how high you go,” the song underscores a message of self-discovery and potential, inviting us to embrace life fully and pursue the joy within and around us as the true meaning of life.

"I mulled it for several years, and I noticed something,” Rusty continues. “Almost every potential answer put forward relates strictly to humans. Except one, ‘procreate.’ And that answer cannot possibly be correct because a vast percentage of the lives that ever existed never succeeded in procreating, yet it cannot be claimed that these lives were without meaning. Otherwise, all other prospective answers to this fundamental question generally fail to factor in every other life form, living or extinct. I found this very odd. After all, are we talking about ‘life’ here, or not? The insistence on strictly a human perspective seems a surefire way to wander far and wide from any actual solution to the puzzle. I was firmly convinced that the answer to this age-old question was hiding right before us. It would be something very basic. It would apply to every single life form, including the simplest prokaryote. In the bustling landscape of the Seattle music scene, where every note competes for attention, Rusty Reid glows as a beacon of artistry and authenticity.
