Waves Waves

Emerging from the smoky edges of Nashville’s indie underground, CS Hellmann unleashes a tidal force with the searing new single “Waves Waves.” Recorded at the secluded Polychrome Ranch studio in the East Tennessee mountains, this track is a personal confession and a sonic exorcism. Produced by longtime friend and neighbour-turned-collaborator Jared Corder, the song bristles with urgency, driven by single-take guitar performances that bleed emotion, grit, and raw human struggle. Hellmann’s musical DNA, part blues, part industrial rock, part psych-blasted groove, spills across every measure.

Right from the opening seconds, “Waves Waves” announces itself with swagger and voltage. A razor-sharp riff ignites the atmosphere, conjuring the swagger of Arctic Monkeys laced with the venom of Trent Reznor. The verses slither with a bluesy snarl, drenched in shadow, while the pre-chorus breaks wide open with Radiohead-style existential yearning—an emotional catch of breath before the chorus crashes in like a memory you can’t shake. “Waves waves rolling on you, they’re rolling on me,” Hellmann sings, channelling something primal and ancient through a contemporary haze.

This is a song about heartbreak or external turmoil and an inner monologue set on fire. Hellmann explains the song as a dialogue between the conscious and subconscious, a storm surge of suppressed desire breaking through layers of routine and resistance. That metaphor extends through the production: waves of distortion, crashing cymbals, and dynamic tension mirror the lyrical reckoning. The song erupts and at its centre is a blistering guitar solo, improvised and recorded in a single take, that cuts like a flare across the emotional night sky.

What makes “Waves Waves” so compelling is how alive it feels. There’s nothing over-polished; every note, riff, and vocal breath feels lived-in and urgent. The chemistry between Hellmann and Corder is palpable, a creative synergy forged in years of friendship and sharpened by their respective evolutions. At Polychrome Ranch, away from the noise of Nashville, Hellmann found the headspace to explore the boundaries of sound and self. The result is a track that showcases his talents and defines them.

With “Waves Waves,” CS Hellmann stakes a bold claim in the landscape of dark indie rock. It’s a song that commands your attention from the first thunderclap of sound to the last ghostly echo, an offering of vulnerability disguised in swagger. For those drawn to introspective and explosive music, Hellmann has delivered a modern anthem for the internal battles we face, one wave at a time.
