Sons Left Behind is a band from Szombathely, Hungary, formed in July 2023, which has quickly established a notable presence on the Hungarian popular music scene. The members are: Máté Joó (vocals, guitar), Péter Kendik (piano), Dániel Kendik (drums, keyboards), and Áron Tamás (guitar).
Their music is diverse and transcends genre boundaries: primarily blending elements of rock, blues, classical, and alternative music, all wrapped in a popular, accessible sound. For them, style is not a rule but a tool; each song receives the soundscape that best expresses the emotion, story, or thought behind it.
In February 2024, they released their debut EP titled Chains, followed by their nine-track album Human by Design in October, both recorded in their studio. That same year, they produced a live video series called Bartók Live Session in the Bartók Hall of Szombathely, where they performed seven songs in a unique acoustic setting, captured with professional audio and visual quality.
Sons Left Behind aims to make every song and concert an emotional journey, one that listeners can connect with, immerse themselves in, and take something meaningful from. Their music is not meant to be categorised, but to be felt.
For the band, it has always been important to encounter new musical challenges, and now they’ve embarked on something they’ve never done before: covering a classic rock song. Paint It Black is perhaps one of the most unavoidable pieces in rock history, at least for us; it certainly is, and the very fact of touching such a legendary track already felt like a serious undertaking. That’s exactly what drew them to it: they didn’t just want to “play it well,” but also to add something new to it, while preserving the original spirit.

Although they currently have several original songs in the works, one of them being the recently released Fight with Darkness, they felt that now was the right time for something entirely different. This cover allowed us to place our sound and perspective into a musical world and body of work that they hadn’t previously explored. They aimed to capture the song’s oppressive, psychedelic atmosphere while consistently keeping our musical character present throughout.
