EPs & Albums

GIANFRANCO GFN’s “GIOMANÈ” is a living, breathing musical journey that unfolds with warmth, intention, and an unmistakable human pulse. From the very first notes, it becomes clear that this is a work shaped by years of experience, collaboration, and a deep respect for organic musicianship. Released on June 6th, 2025, GIOMANÈ stands as the fifth album in GIANFRANCO GFN’s career, yet it feels less like a culmination and more like a confident declaration of identity. Rooted in Groove, Soul, and Acid Jazz, the record introduces listeners to the unmistakable GIAZZ! universe—a sonic world where soul, funk, pop, and blues intertwine effortlessly, guided by emotion rather than trends.

The opening track, “Sing The Song,” sets the tone with an inviting sense of openness and unity. It feels like a manifesto for the album itself: music as connection, as shared language, as a reminder of our collective humanity. From there, GIOMANÈ moves fluidly through moods and textures, with tracks like “In My Dreams” and “Doctor Wind” offering introspective moments that balance groove with contemplation. There is a sense of patience throughout the album, where nothing feels rushed or overproduced. Instead, the music breathes, allowing melodies and rhythms to unfold naturally. This restraint is one of the album’s greatest strengths, reinforcing its timeless quality.

A defining feature of GIOMANÈ is its deeply organic production. Recorded across Switzerland and the Ivory Coast, the album carries a global spirit without ever feeling scattered. The sessions at Le Bocal Studio in Boudry, under the attentive ear of sound engineer and bassist David Caraccio, capture the intimacy and interplay of musicians performing together in real time. The brass sections, recorded in Côte d’Ivoire and arranged by saxophonist JB-Moundele, inject warmth, power, and a subtle Afro-inflected vitality that elevates tracks like “Supernatural” and “Sunshine.” These elements are then meticulously polished during mixing and mastering in Italy by Nico Oderico, resulting in a sound that is refined and richly textured.

Mid-album highlights such as “Are You Lost,” “Soft,” and “Saigon” showcase GIANFRANCO GFN’s gift for emotional storytelling. The lyrics—crafted by a talented collective including Alan Jackson, Patrizia Viccaro, Vladimir Carbone, David Caraccio, and Gianfranco himself—avoid politics or dogma, focusing instead on universal human experiences. Love, longing, introspection, and quiet joy take centre stage. The vocals, led by Vladimir Carbone and supported by beautifully blended backing harmonies from Evgenia Vieira, Giorgia Rissone, and Alma Cirluzo, feel sincere and unforced, adding emotional depth without overshadowing the instrumental richness.

Instrumentally, GIOMANÈ is a masterclass in ensemble playing. Gianfranco GFN’s guitar work anchors the album with elegance and groove, never flashy but always expressive. The rhythm section—David Caraccio on bass, Nicolas Pittet on drums, and Lucien Matthey on percussion—provides a supple, dynamic foundation that allows the music to flow organically. Keyboards by Claude-Alain Biedermann and Christian Chopard add layers of colour and atmosphere, while the horn section—featuring JB-Moundele, Ediamen N’Cho, Fred Stalder, Grah Rollins, and Jean-Paul Assale—brings punch and sophistication. Each musician leaves a distinct fingerprint, yet the collective sound remains cohesive and purposeful.

As the album moves toward its latter half, tracks like “When You Have Gone,” “Me After You,” and “My Sunday Morning” slow the pace and invite reflection. These songs feel like quiet conversations, intimate and unguarded, revealing the album’s emotional core. There is a sense of lived experience here—a maturity that comes from years spent exploring different musical paths and distilling them into a personal language. “Boulevard de l’amour (fall in love)” adds a touch of romance and nostalgia, while “Jumping Around” closes the album on an uplifting, groove-driven note that celebrates movement, joy, and freedom.

What truly sets GIOMANÈ apart is its commitment to authenticity. In an era dominated by digital shortcuts and algorithm-driven production, GIANFRANCO GFN has chosen a more demanding path: real instruments, real musicians, real interaction. This decision gives the album its soul. You can hear the subtle imperfections, the shared glances between players, the spontaneous moments that only happen when humans create together in a room. It is this humanity that makes GIOMANÈ resonate so deeply, offering listeners not just entertainment, but connection.

Ultimately, “GIOMANÈ” stands as a powerful testament to artistic autonomy and musical integrity. It is accessible without being simplistic, sophisticated without being pretentious, and deeply emotional without ever feeling forced. GIANFRANCO GFN invites us into his GIAZZ! universe with generosity and confidence, reminding us of the enduring power of groove, soul, and shared creativity. Suppose this album moves you—as it undoubtedly will—consider supporting the artist directly. Independent, organic projects like GIOMANÈ thrive on listener support, and donations play a vital role in keeping this kind of heartfelt music alive. By contributing, you’re investing in the future of authentic, human-made music.
